The Quest Schema

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 1 month ago

On a small farm in Kansas is the ORDINARY WORLD of the young girl named Dorothy Gale. After running away from home and being swept away from a tornado she enters into an unknown land. In order for her to get home she must embark on a journey to the Emerald City, her OUTER PROBLEM. She misses her Auntie Em and Uncle Henry terribly. Throughout the journey her INNER PROBLEM is her feeling out of control of the situation, just as she felt when Ms. Gulch tried to take Toto away from her at the beginning. Along the way she meets Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion, her THRESHOLD GUARDIANS. When they get to Oz (SPECIAL WORLD), they are not greeted with much hope from the Wizard.

The Wizard demands them to complete a TEST in order for them to get their desires: bring back the Wicked Witch's broom. Her OUTER PROBLEM to go home, is delayed once more. Once at the Witch's liar she is faced with an ORDEAL as she is locked in the top part. As she is RESURRECTED by her fellow friends, they try to escape, with the Witch and her guardsmen closing in on them. After accidently killing the Wicked Witch by melting her, Dorothy is a hero and gets the broom.

As they return to the SPECIAL WORLD of Oz with the broom, the Wizard is baffled. He is no great Wizard but he gives them their desires in different ways than expected, all except for Dorothy. Her INNER PROBLEM of never being able to tell the ones she loves how she feels makes her terribly sad. Tears fill her eyes as her MENTOR Glenda the Good Witch comes down to tell her she had the power to go home all along. She clicks her heels three times chanting "There's no place like home" and wakes to find her family surrounding her bed in her ORDINARY WORLD of Kansas. She confronts her INNER PROBLEM by confessing how much she missed them and telling them how much she loves them.
