Spicewood

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 5 months ago

Think of the boondocks, now picture the name of the town Spicewood.

Basically, all of my mom's side of the family lives there, and if you want to think of all of my cousin's as white trash (without the trailers), then you have it right. If your fifteen and not pregnant, or haven't gotten someone pregnant yet, then you aren't normal. Hollingsworth Corner is a convenient store that is owned by my mom's uncle John and everyone knows everyone there.

We only really ever go to visit my great grandma and grandpa, mamaw and papaw. Now, they really are the sweetest things ever and I don't think they are weird, however all my mom's cousins are.

The drive to Spicewood is about an hour and a half, but the long country roads make it seem forever. Traveling to see this side of the family is interesting nonetheless. There are always the alcoholics, the abusive relationships that won't get divorced because it "isn't right", and the young kids who have more of a shit-filled toilet mouth than myself. Don't get me wrong, they're nice people, but I am sure as hell glad that my Nina got my mom and uncles out of there before they became like them.

The deserted one-lane country roads with wildlife scenery fits the family perfectly. It's a lonely drive for the car, a boring drive, the only excitement is the radio, letting you listen in on other happenings.

Spicewood is a lonely town (that's why everyone is in each other's business), a boring town (no wonder everyone either gets pregnant early or drinks), and a distant town (the closest town is Marble Falls, which isn't much).

Regardless, Spicewood has been a town filled with family love (and embarassment), many memories (both good and bad), and a house that I can always run to, Mamaw and Papaw's.
